Garmin has been chosen by X-Yachts to provide digital switching and monitoring for the upcoming XR 41 model, set to debut at boot Düsseldorf 2025.
The XR 41 racing yacht is designed to excel in the fastest segment of the ORC category B. With a length of 41.8ft, it is a competitive racer and a sleek cruiser, representing a significant return to the core of X-Yachts' DNA.
Characterized by a hull with shallow volume and minimal rocker, the XR 41 boasts evenly distributed volume along its length, with noticeable overhangs, particularly at the bow.
The V-shaped stern of the yacht barely skims the waterline, contributing to its performance.
Featuring a maximum beam of 4.18m and a moderate draft of 2.4m, the XR 41 is versatile for racing in various waters.
According to a spokesperson from X-Yachts, "A typical racing yacht has a limited lifespan and depreciates quickly. The XR 41 is crafted to win races for many years and accommodate sporty family sailing for decades to come."
The interior of the XR 41 is modular, allowing for components such as the galley and lockers in the cabins to be removed for racing and reinstalled for cruising.
While the deck layout is optimized for full crew racing, it is also designed to be suitable for short-handed or even single-handed sailing.
The XR project prioritizes the rating aspect, ensuring adaptability to future rule changes.
The yacht's design permits adjustments to the keel, sail plan, rigging, rudder, displacement, and other elements.
The XR 41 will be offered in two versions – race and sport.
Premium digital switching
The racing variant will feature a square top main sail and split backstay, whereas the sport version will have a smaller sail area, pinhead main sail, and single backstay.
Various keel options will be available alongside the standard 2.4m version. The sail plan will focus on asymmetrical sails with a bow sprit.
X-Yachts CEO Kræn Nielsen stated, "We work with a selective group of yacht owners, a principle that extends to all our models, including the new XR 41. Choosing Garmin for the XR 41 project aligns with our commitment to collaborating with top partners and suppliers."
Pontus Fernstrom, EMEA marine segment director at Garmin, remarked, "We are thrilled to provide our premium digital switching and monitoring solutions for the XR 41. This collaboration marks an exciting new chapter for both brands, reflecting a shared dedication to enhancing the sailing experiences of our global clientele."
