Top 5 Best Sailing Catamarans Over 1 Million Euro in 2024

In this review, we introduce you to the best cruising sailing catamarans, whose value exceeds 1 million euros. It's no surprise that Fountaine Pajot's offshore catamarans took three places of this top 5 in 2024, and the remaining two went to the Lagoon shipyard’s vessels. Luxurious catamarans, the comfort of which is quite comparable to the level of comfort on superyachts, have become the hallmark of both companies. At the same time, double-hulled ships will give pleasure not only to lovers of comfort. Experienced sailors have also become their fans, as some of the best teams of naval architects and designers have worked on them. They provided their creations not only with luxurious and thoughtful interiors, but also with excellent seaworthiness.

Fountain Pajot Samana 59

This cruising sailing 18 m (59 ft) catamaran with a width of 9.5 m (39 ft) resembles the Alegria 67 with its outlines. This is not surprising, since the Fountaine Pajot shipyard, when working on these boats, invited the same team of naval architects and designers - Berret-Racoupeau Yacht Design. The aim was to provide the same comfort on a smaller catamaran as on a yacht costing more than 2 million euros, but without sacrificing performance. The successful sales of Samana 59 have exceeded all expectations, and this is a sure sign that the developers have coped with the task.

Top 5 Best Sailing Catamarans Over 1 Million Euro

To get on board, or rather, into the cockpit of the luxurious catamaran Samana 59, we climb the wide steps of the ladder, at the same time overlooking a large hydraulic platform that can withstand weight up to 450 kg.

The cockpit is a huge space that covers an area of almost 30 m². And every centimeter of this area is very well thought out, resulting in a magnificent, spacious place to relax or dine in the fresh air. It impresses not only with its volume, but also with comfort.

The center of the dining area is a sliding table, which is surrounded on both sides by comfortable sofas with removable mattresses and pillows (you can optionally choose different thicknesses). Around the table, 12 people can freely accommodate, and if desired, much more if you invite passengers of a neighboring yacht to a party while moored at the bay.

Cozy sofas are located on the starboard side of the cockpit. Under the seats of the sofas there are spacious lockers. To the right you can find a luxurious sunbed.

A compact but very thoughtful galley includes plancha, refrigerator, sink. It is very conveniently located, with free access from several sides. Three people at the same time can manage the cooking, drinks and washing dishes without interfering with each other.

Along the entire perimeter, the cockpit in case of bad weather - rain or strong wind - can be protected with an awning with transparent in several places unbuttoned canvases.

The foredeck of this sailing catamaran is very similar to the cockpit, it is slightly below deck level and is the perfect quiet and cozy place for relaxing and partying. Having gone down the ladder several steps here, you will find soft, comfortable sofas, a huge deck chair and a wine cooler, and you will not leave this wonderful place soon. Unless, of course, you are driving the catamaran.

By the way, it would be necessary to visit the control post, and on the way to look into the engine room. The entrance to it is through a hatch in the cockpit deck. The engine room is a fairly roomy compartment with access to Volvo Penta engines, which still has a lot of space and shelves for various equipment and tools.

We cross the cockpit again, and here is the spiral ladder leading to the flybridge. This is a huge space of 30 m² (which is even larger than the Alegria 67), filled with sofas, sun loungers and sun loungers. A small galley allows you to prepare hot meals al fresco right on the flybridge.

Here you can sunbathe, throw a party, even exercise - the height to the roof allows you to use your imagination. The roof can be either plastic or galvanized. In the bow of the flybridge, behind the pulpit, there are solar panels and a boom-sheet traveler rig.

Well, finally, we got to the main object on the flybridge - the steering post. The 22-inch Garmin Marine Display is really impressive - it provides the control of the anchor winch with windlass, thruster, engine control throttles, radio station. That is, all control is placed at the helm, electric winches are also located here, which is very convenient. An experienced skipper will be able to manage the yacht alone.

And now through the hinged transparent doors we pass into the saloon. The design was optimized to create a single space that unites the cockpit and the saloon. Little things say a lot, for example, rounded corners on ALL furniture.

Salon and cockpit are separated by something like a bar, ready-made meals prepared in the saloon galley can be placed on it for transfer to the cockpit table. The galley is fully equipped with everything you may need in the process of preparing food and drinks, washing dishes, disposing of waste, storing food and wine, etc.

On the left and right sides of the cockpit, behind the doors that open up, there is a descent into the cabins. The right float is traditionally given over to the master cabin if the Samana 59 is bought for personal use. Depending on the choice of configuration, the cabin on the port side can be a guest cabin with a private bathroom or a double cabin for the crew. In total, 4 layout options are offered with 4-6 cabins and separate cabins for the crew.

Based on all said above, we can conclude that the Samana 59 sailing catamaran is perfect for cruises and long passages with family, friends or for organizing charters.

Fountain Pajot Alegria 67

We have already mentioned above that the Samana 59 catamaran was derived from the sailing catamaran Alegria 67 in a somewhat limited form, which did not affect its comfort. Samana 59 was even able to compete with its predecessor in terms of demand - buyers proceed from the position "why pay more for the same level of comfort."

However, the Alegria 67 is the true full-size flagship of Fountaine Pajot. Its predecessors Victoria 67 and Galathea 65 are already out of production.

If we compared the predecessors to a floating cozy home, then with Alegria 67 the shipyard gave yachtsmen a luxurious hotel at sea with all the signs and comfort of a superyacht, including a foredeck with a jacuzzi or spa. In addition, at the disposal of the owner there are:

  • aloon with an area of 39 m²;
  • flybridge with an area of 37 m²;
  • 22 m² master suite with direct access to saloon and foredeck with Jacuzzi;
  • from 3 to 6 cabins depending on the chosen configuration.

Based on the last point, you can understand that each buyer can customize all this luxury to his liking and in accordance with the purpose of buying Alegria 67.

For example, the Charter version has 6 double cabins with private bathrooms. On the Maestro and Charter versions, the magnificent modern galley can be placed in the saloon or in one of the floats to optimize main deck space. Naval architecture group Berret Racoupeau has created a sailboat without compromise between interior comfort, spacious volumes and seaworthiness.

Access to the incredibly spacious lounge deck is open from both sides of the huge cockpit, which, together with the saloon, makes up an even larger space when all the transparent doors and partitions are open.

The vibes of the cockpit are fitting not only for relaxation on comfortable and soft sofas, couches and deck chairs. In the cockpit deck there is a hatch to the engine compartment, the dimensions of which are amazing. Engine power depends on how economical you want to make it: standard is 110 hp, optional - 150 hp and 230 hp. With an engine power of 150 hp the catamaran consumes ridiculously little fuel. In terms of economical maintenance, the Alegria 67 has no competitors in this size. This is despite the fact that the yacht is designed for 1000 liters of water and 1200 liters of diesel fuel. This way, Alegria 67 is also ideally suited for long autonomous navigation.

The hydraulic platform can carry more than just a large transom boat, as it can carry up to 500 kg. From it you can control the grill and sink, so as not to take up space in the cockpit, or use the platform as a solarium while anchored on the high seas.

To walk from the cockpit to the foredeck, you have to overcome a path of 20 meters, and to cross the cat from deck to deck - about 9.

But now we will go up to the flybridge, where, in addition to luxurious seating and a compact galley, there is a boat control station - twin steering wheels with equipment, instruments and winches.

All rigging runs between the two steering wheels. It is located within easy reach of the helms on the starboard and port sides and is supported by four electric winches. Winches are in convenient proximity to the steering wheel. Immediately behind the helm there is a marine display, control knobs for the thruster, autopilot and other cat equipment.

The rig area is 230 m², including the mainsail and genoa.

Testing has shown that the cruising speed on the engines reaches 9.5 knots at 2400 rpm.

It was very easy to raise the mainsail with a winch and set the genoa by simply pressing the electric winding button on the control console.

Fully hauled, maintaining a 50 degree angle to the apparent wind, the Alegria 67 accelerates quickly and reaches a speed of almost 9 knots. When changing course to a less favorable one, the boat loses less than half a knot in speed. With a wind of 10 knots, just great performance for such a big vessel.

This comfortable double-hull sailing yacht will not set any records in catamaran races, but it is ideal for a cruise with a large family, for long-distance sailing trips with a large group of friends, as well as for charters, including corporate water holidays with an extensive program of sea adventures and entertainment.

Lagoon 65 or Lagoon Sixty 5

Since our top goes up, it turns out that first we present the predecessor, and then the older brother, if catamarans of the same manufacturer fall into the rating. So, here's a double-hulled sailboat Lagoon Sixty 5 - the great little brother of the even more great Lagoon cat Seventy 7, or rather, its motorized version.

With this model, the shipyard confirmed its focus on creating a line of catamarans with a visual identity, preserving certain features of Lagoon’s DNA. The steering gear, keels and most of the floats are almost unchanged yet the length was reduced to 19.8 m (65 ft).

The location of the control post in the flybridge on the starboard side has also not changed. Here, right behind the helm, there is a marine display, as well as controls for the autopilot, thruster, etc. with screens for measuring equipment installed next to it. Electric winches are conveniently located in front of the mast, which makes it easier to work with running rigging.

It turned out that it was difficult to cope with all this bulk alone when leaving the cramped marina, as well as when setting sails. The mainsail should be watched by the skipper's mate since the vision is obstructed by a roof. To deploy the genoa and remove the sheets, it was necessary to bend low at the winches.

It is surprising how obedient such a huge cat is to the helm, as well as the sensitivity of the helm itself to the lightest touch. Lagoon The Sixty 5 achieves 7 knots in winds over 10 knots, but it falls short in lighter winds. It is quite understandable with such a displacement and providing the highest level of comfort. But we wouldn't call it a compromise in favor of luxury. Powered by two optional 175 hp Volvo D4 engines, it develops a cruising speed of up to 9 knots at 1800 rpm. At the same time, fuel consumption is up to 20 l/h.

Sailing enthusiasts will enjoy the ease of handling such a big vessel, and comfort lovers will enjoy life to the fullest in the luxurious environment of a catamaran with the feel of a superyacht.

It can comfortably accommodate more than 10 people. The deck with a total area of 90 m² provides freedom of movement and large usable areas for the bow and stern cockpits and saloon. By the way, the foredeck with comfortable sofas and sun loungers seems to be more and more confidently built into Lagoon's DNA.

Saloon and both cockpits, if desired, can be combined into a common space by opening the doors and partitions and getting a space that is huge both in area and in height. At the same time, excellent visibility opens from everywhere, and the saloon is flooded with natural light thanks to large windows around the entire perimeter.

Traditionally, the shipyard offers several configuration options, which the future owner specifies when choosing Lagoon Sixty 5 for sale.

You can choose from 4 to 6 cabins, ranging from 9.5 to 12 m². If you opt for the full master suite on one of the floats, you'll have your own private luxury hotel suite. At your service is an island double bed, a shower, a toilet, a set of cabinets, lockers and shelves, as well as all the entertainment and amenities available in the cabin of the yacht - an audio system, television, air conditioning, etc. A large porthole provides natural light.

If you intend to buy Lagoon Sixty 5 for charter, you get a real comfortable hotel on the ocean. In addition to choosing the configuration of the cabins, you can also choose the location of the galley and the set of equipment for it. The compact galley below deck is sufficient for a small family or group of friends. But for a charter, you need a full kitchen.

Modern sailing catamaran Lagoon Sixty 5 has all the qualities that are inherent in the best representatives of this line of the shipyard - excellent seaworthiness, the highest level of comfort both for life on board and for management.

Lagoon 77 or Lagoon Seventy 7

We already talked about this catamaran when we introduced its younger brother, who took third place in our small competition. Naval architects and designers Van Peteghem of Lauriot Prévost (VPLP) and Nauta Design in the development of the sailing double-hull cruiser Lagoon Seventy 7 went full out on this one.

To manage this luxurious residence on the water, the skipper may need only one assistant who will watch the sails as they are set. The skipper cannot see the mainsail and genoa completely from the helm - they are blocked by the flybridge roof.

You can independently plan almost 25 m² of space below deck and above it. You can buy Lagoon Seventy 7 with a master cabin that is more of a suite in a luxury hotel with a large and comfortable island bed, plenty of storage space, a separate table and any equipment that provides additional comfort or is designed for entertainment.

Of course, the owner's cabin, which completely occupies one of the floats, is equipped with a separate bathroom, shower and toilet. Moreover, an individual beach or a small island is available to you as an option - from the cabin it is possible to access a personal hydraulic platform - a great option for privacy when tired from family or friends.

You can choose from different versions with 3, 4, 5 guest cabins, the set of equipment and amenities in which differ little from each other: island double beds, wardrobes, shelves, bedside tables, a desk and a separate bathroom.

There are several options for the location and equipment of the galley: a compact set that will fit below deck, and a full galley on deck, with all possible equipment for cooking , storing food and drinks, washing dishes, disposing of waste, etc.

Natural veneer of light shades was chosen for interior decoration, yet other options are available.

The cockpit is incredibly spacious with a lot of natural light, comfy sofas and multiple tables.

To be fair, it should be noted that Lagoon Seventy 7 is more focused on private ownership than commercial use. But if you wish and have the opportunity, it can become an ideal place for corporate trips and sea charter cruises for 16 people, since it was created for long autonomous navigation, judging by the volume of water tanks (2x500 l) and fuel (2x650 l).

Fountain Pajot New 80

The undoubted leader in this rating is the sailing catamaran New 80 - the real flagship of Fountaine Pajot. This cruising boat is a prime example of how the shipyard is refining the luxury code that Fountaine Pajot originally created. The selection of the highest level of craftsmanship has reached the point where it is no longer about the feel of a superyacht, which is inherent in most catamarans of the shipyard in recent years. The cruising almost 80-foot catamaran New 80 is essentially already a superyacht.

All the signs of a comfortable life on board during a sea cruise are obvious:

  • huge areas (fore and aft cockpits, saloon, flybridge, deck equipped with sofas) for organizing receptions, celebrations and dinners, including outdoors;

  • the ability to combine the saloon and both cockpits into a single space;
  • comfortable sunbathing areas on the bow and stern, as well as on the flybridge, equipped with cozy sunbeds, sofas and poufs;

  • two side cockpits with large opening platforms in addition to the huge hydraulic platform on the transom, the so-called Beach Club;
  • SPA with jacuzzi on the foredeck;
  • SPA-style shower rooms in each cabin;
  • jacuzzi in owner's cabin;
  • luxury style master suite and guest cabins, designed and equipped in full accordance with the style of refined luxury of superyachts;

  • • the use of natural wood and leather for furniture and upholstery;
  • • superbly equipped full galley and plancha for outdoor cooking;

  • • a huge number of places to store everything that you may need on a long autonomous voyage: a jet ski, a motor boat, equipment and gear for spearfishing, fishing, diving, surfing, etc., not to mention wardrobes, cabinets, shelves and lockers.

On board of New 80 catamaran, any cruise participant doesn’t have to limit themselves when collecting luggage - take everything you cannot do without, including water sports equipment and tackle.

When choosing New 80 for sale the following cabin layouts are available:

  1. Maestro version - 1 owner's suite + 1 bathroom / 1 VIP cabin + 1 bathroom / 2 double cabins + 2 bathrooms.
  2. VIP 4 guest's version - 1 owner's suite + 1 bathroom / 4 double cabins + 4 bathrooms.
  3. VIP 6 guest's version - 6 double cabins + 6 bathrooms.

On the flybridge, in addition to the recreation and reception areas, for the first time for catamarans, a separate navigation area is allocated. This is where significant changes have taken place. The organization of the double control post was radically revised: together with the winches, it was moved far from the recreation area. Electric winches are located between the steering wheels. Behind each helm is a marine display with a large screen diagonal, as well as control knobs displayed here for most of the functions related to movement: autopilot, steering, anchor winch, etc.

The sailing wardrobe is represented by a 200 m² grotto and a 140 m² genoa.

Berret-Racoupeau design company has created a sailing catamaran in the price range up to 5 million euros, which in 2023 is still unrivaled. But the year has just begun and the future looks bright.

When evaluating sailing catamarans, we proceeded, of course, not relying just on their cost. And the fact that they lined up in the top 5 from the least expensive to the most expensive only confirms once again that manufacturers do not set the prices for cats based on nothing, but in strict accordance with the level of performance and other seaworthiness, ease of operation and the comfort provided for life on board.
