The fender is an inflatable type, equipped with thick chamber walls made of an elastic and flexible polymer. The eye and heads are made of a harder and more durable material for frequent loads and burst pressure. It also has a built-in waterproof valve for air inflation and internal pressure adjustment to ensure the tightness and stable operation of the device.

Such devices serve to protect the ship's hull from shock and friction, they act as a protective shock-absorbing pad in following conditions:

• mooring at the pier and towing the vessel;
• shared anchorage next to other boats;
• dangerous maneuvering or tacking;
• passing through narrow straits or locking.

Fenders are filled with air, after which they are hung from the sides, bow or stern on ropes or cables along one side or around the entire perimeter of the vessel. It is recommended to select the height of round fenders of such a size that it overlaps a little more than half of the freeboard. Customers buy ball-shaped fenders because for many they are convenient in that they create a greater distance between the hull and surfaces and, as a result, better protection of the vessel.

Often used in more difficult conditions and problematic bays, so they calmly endure temperature extremes, exposure to ultraviolet radiation, any weather conditions and high loads, are resistant to physical deformation and abrasion. At the same time, it is important to monitor the stability of the pressure, and not to pump the fender too much.
