Most shipowners buy fenders in batches to make sure their boat is protected from hull damage during mooring and other maneuvers. To do this, they place similar devices between the side of the boat and other surfaces as a buffer to absorb impact from collisions and provide protection from abrasion. Fenders have long been used, among other things, to emphasize the style of your own boat by choosing the right color and design.
Yachtsmen around the world actively use inflatable fenders because they:
- are easily brought to a ready state;
- can be quickly switched from side to side;
- are lightweight and take up little space;
- do not require permanent fixation;
- allow you to store them anywhere.
Fenders are selected based on the dimensions of your own vessel and mooring conditions, because piers and mooring poles are not always equipped with reliable fenders to ensure safety. Standard practice is to have several dampers on your ship at the rate of one fender for every 2-3 meters of the boat, but not less than three on each side. And the length of the fender is selected in such a way that it covers two-thirds of the side height. Usually, on a medium-sized boat, 7-8 side fenders and a pair of stern spherical fenders are kept.
