Dutch Design, a marine innovation studio that combines advanced technology with a holistic approach to living, has unveiled its inaugural project — The Sea Rover. Founded by Scott Blum and spearheaded by the award-winning naval designer Bernd Weel, Dutch Design's Sea Rover sets out to become the world's sole wellness-focused yacht. Blum, an experienced yacht owner, has long harbored the ambition to create a vessel that embodies this vision after spending many years on the open waters.
The Sea Rover is set to be a limited-edition yacht, with only 10 units planned for production. Constructed from sturdy steel and aluminum, the yacht will span 42.5 meters and boast luxurious amenities such as a spacious spa, a fully equipped gym, and a versatile sports court. Unlike traditional yacht layouts, these features will be situated on the bridge deck of the Sea Rover, offering guests a panoramic view of the sea while engaging in workouts, yoga sessions, or spa treatments.
“I've witnessed firsthand the growing desire for a new seafaring lifestyle that emphasizes physical activity and well-being. Sea Rover caters to owners who relish starting their day with a dip in the ocean, engaging in workouts, diving, and enjoying various water toys,” remarked Blum. “It seamlessly integrates travel with holistic well-being — a concept that is groundbreaking in the realm of boating. For those who invest in becoming owners, this represents a substantial asset that will retain its value over time.”
While the yacht's design emphasizes physical pursuits, equal attention has been given to culinary experiences. The galley and dining area have been strategically placed adjacent to each other to foster interaction between the chef, crew members, and guests, with the galley equipped with top-of-the-line appliances. The Sea Rover is designed to accommodate a crew of nine, with Blum insisting that each crew cabin be outfitted to the same high standards as the guest cabins.
“Our focus during the creation of Sea Rover was not constrained by a fixed timeline. We revisited the details multiple times throughout the design phase, refining them with each iteration,” Weel explained. “Our emphasis was on identifying the essentials and must-haves on board to craft a design that is sleek, timeless, quintessentially Dutch, and enduring.”
