The Swan 88 DreamCatcher, the latest yacht from the renowned Nautor Swan, has claimed victory at the Boat International Design & Innovation Awards, securing the prestigious Eco Award. This accolade highlights Nautor Swan's dedication to enhancing sustainability in sailing, through innovative solutions for energy generation and storage while at sea.
Swan 88 DreamCatcher: Pioneering Sustainability
Following its debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival and the Monaco Yacht Show, the Swan 88 has made waves with its cutting-edge hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system. The jury unanimously awarded the yacht for its sophisticated energy system, developed in collaboration with Torqeedo.
The Deep Blue System integrated into the DreamCatcher includes:
120kW electric motor enabling quiet navigation up to 11.4 knots
160kWh batteries ensuring range and energy efficiency
Advanced hydrogeneration system, producing clean energy while the vessel is in motion
Hydrogeneration: Clean Energy on the Go
One of the most innovative features of the Swan 88 DreamCatcher is its ability to generate renewable energy while sailing. The Deep Blue system automatically adjusts performance multiple times per second, optimizing energy production from the wind without compromising the boat's speed.
Thanks to this technology, DreamCatcher can operate entirely on batteries, recharging the necessary energy to power all onboard systems, making it self-sufficient while sailing. This sustainable propulsion system is currently under consideration for adoption across the entire Nautor Swan range, from the Swan 51 to the maxi line.
A Leap Forward in Sustainable Yachting
Giovanni Pomati, CEO of Nautor Swan, stated:
“We are extremely proud that DreamCatcher has received the Eco Award for the best concept in terms of sustainability and self-sufficiency. This recognition reaffirms our commitment to sustainable sailing and encourages us to further develop this technology across our entire range.”
The Eco Award presentation took place at the Superyacht Design Festival in Kitzbühel, an event that celebrates the best innovations in the maritime industry, featuring international designers, naval architects, and leading shipyards.
