Beneteau Gran Turismo 32 Review
In this article you will learn about the smallest model from the GT family of the Beneteau brand. The topRik team talks about their research on the Gran Turismo 32 yacht, illustrating the story with numerous photos.
As always, the review by topRik experts is supplemented with various video reviews. And of course, you will learn the opinions of yachting journalists about the yacht, whose reviews we quote, providing links to their full text in the leading yachting media.
Beneteau Gran Turismo 32 is a 10-meter high-speed yacht with a hardtop and a semi-enclosed saloon. When designing the model, Andreani studio Design has focused on ease of movement and improved visibility.
For the first time Gran Turismo 32 appeared in front of an interested audience in the fall of 2019 at the Cannes Boat Show. The yacht is available in two versions: with outboard and inboard engines with a total power of up to 700 HP; maximum speed reaches 35 knots.
For ease of control, the boat can be equipped with a Zipwake system joystick with, a bow thruster and a 16-inch Garmin multi-function marine display screen that supports mapping and displays echo sounder and sonar readings. The latter may come in handy if you are an avid fisherman - Gran Turismo 32’s cockpit is simply perfect for fishing in coastal waters.
Thanks to the competent organization of the internal space, the small size of the boat is not restrictive. The usable area of the main deck has been increased due to the arrangement of an asymmetrical exit to the foredeck on the port side. Therefore, there are three social zones here, the location, equipment and purpose of which the topRik team will describe below.
We will also reveal the secret of how the architects managed to create conditions on such a small yacht for free accommodation of 11 people during the day, as well as for a comfortable overnight stay on the boat for 6 people. We remind you: it’s only 9.95 meters long…
We believe that we should dwell in more detail on the Zipwake ship stabilization system installed on the GT 32. The principle of operation of the system is reminiscent of the functions of a car's adaptive suspension, which is based on the interceptor principle. The spoiler blades, moving down 2-3 cm, create resistance to the water flow coming out from under the bottom of the yacht.
Interceptors, like transom plates, are devices used on boats moving in planing mode or close to it, designed to influence the running position of the boat, speed up planing and dampen boat dolphining.
Interceptors and indicators are installed on the hull, and their control panel is displayed on the helm console. Through sensors the position of the boat relative to the horizontal is monitored, that is, the running trim and roll of the hull. This system is used instead of transom plates and operates automatically, without the participation of the helmsman, who performs only a controlling function.
After our own testing of GT 36, preceding this review, the topRik team was convinced that on such small yachts this is a very justified feature, and going to sea on Gran Turismo 32 confirmed this opinion.
The qualitative difference between the Zipwake system and transom plates is the speed of response; it is 5 times faster and much more efficient. The main difference between this system and other similar systems is that Zipwake offers, in addition to standard functions, automatic roll correction during turns. That is, the hull of the yacht will be parallel to the surface of the water mirror during any maneuvers, since when the boat enters a turn, the system changes its external roll to a stable and safe internal one.
Of course, the design of this model also uses Air Step technology, thanks to which Beneteau Gran Turismo 32 reaches planing faster and, despite its impressive speed data, is fuel-efficient.

Review of Beneteau GT 32 by topRik Team
We were preparing for Beneteau Gran Turismo 32 being even smaller than the GT 34, which was produced by the shipyard earlier, and of course, previously tested by the topRik team Gran Turismo 36. But if the difference in the exterior of the 32nd and 34th is immediately evident, then the difference between the Gran Turismo 32 from 36th can only be noticed if they are placed side by side, which is what happened in Dusseldorf Boat Show 2020. For obvious reasons, we were unable to carry out testing at sea during the show; we tested the yacht later. So, let's talk about everything in order.
First Impressions
It is not surprising that the models listed above are similar in appearance. Designed to provide the perfect transition from day boat to express cruiser, the GT line utilizes the Flyer 10 deck plan while maintaining the chick of the Gran Turismo line with this elegant hardtop and a large windshield with a bow exit door on the port side.
Naval architects from Beneteau Powerboats have managed to create free open space on the main deck with the ability to cover it completely if necessary. To do this, simply close the hardtop's built-in sunroof and lower the transparent curtains around the cockpit.
Depending on your preferences, you can opt for the version with outboard motors, and then your first glance will reveal this profile.
In this case, the swim platform will be divided so that two engines are placed between its parts. But the layout of the main deck and the layout of the lower deck cabins will remain the same regardless of the choice of engine type.
On the Transom
From the schematics above you can already imagine the view of the transom of a yacht with stationary and outboard engines. The sofa along the entire transom wall is split to provide access to the cockpit through a stainless-steel gate.
Depending on the choice of engine type, you can have a full-fledged swim platform and transport a dinghy or surfboard on it. In both cases, the platform is equipped with a folding ladder.
In the Cockpit
Beneteau has always been able to surprise. So we were surprised by how you can convert the dining area, located in the cockpit and consisting of a large sofa of complex shape and a table with a cut corner.
This is how this furniture group looks, arranged into a single space – here a reclined back faces the transom. This can be a huge sunbathing area or a sleeping place for two people.
And of course, this compact galley with a stove, grill, freezer, ice maker and sink is surprising. In most cases, Beneteau does not compromise on principles, and the length of a boat that does not even reach 10 m is not a reason to deprive its passengers of all the pleasures of life on board in their opinion. And eating freshly cooked steak in the fresh air with ice cream and a cold drink for dessert is one of such pleasures.
We continue to make sure that this yacht was created for the comfort of the owner, his family and his guests.
A well-equipped and comfortable helm station, with everything at hand, is made to appease even most demanding yacht owners.
Two comfortable chairs that can be adjusted to your height and position when operating the boat (standing or sitting), a helm in the form of a car wheel and, at a convenient distance, the dashboard. A powerful engine control lever is placed under the right hand, and a thruster in the form of a joystick is right under the left hand. There are also indicators that show the operation of the Zipwake system interceptors, other navigation equipment, communications, and sensors for other equipment of the yacht.
The panel is so large that it can accommodate two chartplotter screens, which can be important for fishermen. The large screen, which receives images from the rear cameras, as well as the joystick make mooring and unmooring very easy, especially during the yachting season.
It's time to use the door to the bow and go there on the port side.
But before we leave, look again at the photos of the main deck, paying attention to all the opening hatches, windows and transoms. Yes, on this “little” boat no one is in danger of being limited by space, since, if desired, it can be opened to all winds from all sides. And this is good news for those who like to feel the wind in their hair on a yacht. Almost 360 degrees view (including an open view of the stern) is provided by all these windows – you can see it on the photo.
On the Foredeck
Along this “path” on the left side we will continue to the bow of the Gran Turismo 32. The use of asymmetry in the layout of the main deck made it possible to successfully place the galley on the main deck and create this passage to the foredeck without its reflection on the opposite side.
A perfectly balanced and very practical solution that ensured free passage along this broken line from the platform itself to the anchor installation without changes in level and problems when turning.
And here we are again surprised to see this luxurious... mmm... rookery? It is difficult to call this magnificent lounger collection otherwise, with three individual sunbeds united by one design solution.
If you don't have enough space on the lounger, you can sit on this teak-lined chain box lid. And at the same time appreciate the quality and reliability of stainless-steel railings - the entire bow of the boat is equipped with such handrails.
If you're not tired of being surprised yet, let's go down the ladder to the left of the helm station into the lower deck saloon and cabins.
On the Lower Deck
Here the saloon and owner's cabin are combined into a single unit, which explains the removal of the galley to the main deck.
This is what the saloon looks like. As on other Beneteau yachts, the corners of furniture that may come into contact with the human body during rocking are carefully rounded.
And in the photo below you can see the same interior, but only slightly refurbished. The table was lowered, and another large mattress was placed on top - excellent sleeping place for two.
The second cabin amidships has an even larger bed, which is also of a normal rectangular shape. But the height of the ceiling at the head is not encouraging, but as you remember: less than 10 meters.
So, we arrived at the secret - how the architects from Beneteau Powerboats, as well as interior designers from Style and Design and Adreani Design managed to provide 6 full berths on a yacht of this size.
Of course, this was facilitated by the decision to use the entire width of the deck: as a result, the 32-foot yacht fits everything that a 40-foot boat can boast of. Including a bathroom with an isolated shower, washbasin and toilet, equipped with cabinets and shelves.
By the way, there is quite enough storage space for a small family or a company going on a short boat trip: on the shelves, in cabinets and lockers under beds and sofas.
And if you are going on a cruise along the coast with stops at ports and overnight stays, then you won’t have to stock up on food for a long time, and your existing refrigerator will be enough for one trip.
At the Sea
Before we begin our testing story, we should list all the engine options that are offered by the manufacturer so that you can imagine what the line “Engine (max), hp: 700” means:
- outboard motor 2 x up to 350 hp;
- 2 x 230 hp Mercruiser 3L V6 Bravo3;
- 2 x 270 hp Mercruiser 3L V6 Bravo3;
- 2 x 250 hp Mercruiser 4.5L _ V 6 Bravo 3 DTS;
- 2 x 300 hp Mercruiser 6.2L V8 Bravo3.
In the version with stationary engines, soundproofing is provided in the engine compartment, the entrance to which is located in the cockpit.
Total power of inboard engines installed on Beneteau Gran Turismo 32 we tested was 540 hp.
The first thing we did after reaching planing at a speed of 12 knots was checking the operation of the Zipwake system. We made many sharp turns, including crossing our own trail. It was a lot of fun, because we could not manage to make the roll risky - it was stubbornly leveled, like a steadfast tin soldier. Remembering the tests of the GT 36, we tried to not get too carried away so as to waste all the fuel on trying to push the spoilers to the limit.
Of course, the Air Step's hull shape also contributes to ease of control and excellent stability, ensuring smooth drainage of water flow and reducing its resistance. This has a positive effect on speed characteristics and reduces energy consumption. The air that is trapped under the hull creates a cushion effect, and skids at the rear of the hull increase the yacht's stability.
We didn't aim to exceed the manufacturer's stated top speed of 35 knots, easily reaching 30 knots per hour, but determined that an average cruising speed of 25 knots would keep you cruising comfortably.
Although for long coastal cruises it is better to travel most of the way at a speed of 20-21 knots, since fuel consumption is optimal - within 85 liters per hour. This will give you almost 9 hours of driving without refilling the fuel tanks, taking into account a 10% reserve.
Advantages
Our team unanimously decided that Beneteau Gran Turismo 32 has virtually no flaws, except for the low ceiling at the head of the guest cabin bed, which is caused by the design of the boat itself. But for a one-day boat, which is not designed for long journeys with numerous overnight stays, this is quite acceptable.
As for the noise when driving, this is typical for the option with outboard engines. In the yacht we tested, the engine compartment was quite reliably soundproofed, so that the operation of the engines was comparable to a running washing machine. All other characteristics relate exclusively to the advantages of the model.
- It is not usual to start listing the advantages from the price tag, but we are ready to break this stereotype, since this is truly a very inexpensive yacht for its set of features. You yourself can adjust the price, since the developers have provided many options, some of which you can do without, if desired, especially if the boat is really operated only as one-day a weekend boat.
- The design is certified as class B for 8 people and as class C for 10 passengers. Not every family can provide such a passenger flow, so the capacity of this yacht for a family is an overkill.
- The hull and decks were constructed using a sandwich principle consisting of fiberglass with a balsa core, bonded with polyester resins under pressure. Today, this is the last word in technology that ensures lightness and strength of the structure, as well as resistance to osmosis processes.
- Air Step hull technology and Zipwake system with spoilers provide excellent seakeeping characteristics, from stability to accessible speed.
- Continuing from the previous section, we will add that these innovations in the line ensure not only the reliability of the boat, but also the ability to operate it alone.
- Simple controls, small dimensions, and a list of equipment for a comfortable life on board expand the range of uses of this yacht - from personal use to a large family or company.

Conclusion
It would seem that such a small yacht is definitely intended exclusively for the owner. For the most part this is true. Fast and comfortable Beneteau Gran Turismo 32 is simply ideal for a caring father of a family who wants to provide his family with a reliable boat for short cruises along the coast.
This is also an excellent option for a tired sea wolf who cannot part with the sea, but no longer wants to worry about the sails.
For the sea hermit who does not need huge areas, but wants to be alone and comfortable at sea, the GT 32 is a godsend.
So businessmen who rent out boats should also think twice before refusing to purchase this very inexpensive but sought-after boat for their charter fleet.
