Fenders are necessary to avoid dents and holes, coating chips, deep scratches, paint peeling and other possible damage to the outer surface of the side during mooring. Therefore, owners of yachts and boats always have a supply of dampers on board, so as not to pay for expensive repairs later, save their nerves and money. Also, such devices are widely used during a number of maneuvers:

• when parking next to other boats;
• passing through dangerous areas;
• docking in the open sea or lake;
• maneuvering among several vessels.

Before mooring, the devices are hung on cables from the contact side, and in this way a number of protective buffers are created between the ship's hull and the walls of the pier.
