Samantha Davies completes her solo round-the-world sailing race in 13th place at Vendée Globe 2024 live event
After experiencing two painful abandonments in the 2012 and 2020 editions, Samantha Davies completed this intense Vendée Globe just like in 2008 (4th place) and crossed the finish line on Thursday, January 30 at 11:15 a.m. The skipper of the IMOCA Initiatives-Cœur spent 80 days, 22 hours, and 13 minutes in the race. She will sail up the iconic Sables d'Olonne channel alongside the German sailor Boris Herrmann starting at 3 p.m.
Issue Resolved for Sébastien Marsset!
The skipper of FOUSSIER, currently in 28th place, had reported yesterday having to deal with a major energy production breakdown. In a message sent this morning, Sébastien explains that he is "still on the edge" and "narrowly avoided a blackout." He narrates the following:
"I only had one hydrogenerator left, and it was really not easy, especially as I was progressing through the sargassum. With the heat, the shocks from the waves, a cable broke and burned the two alternators of the engine. One had to be replaced. After a long repair, it was still touch and go: either you succeed and it works, or you don't succeed, you burn it, and it becomes really complicated. Not having an autopilot, communication, it becomes very tough! When you're repairing, you check a thousand times if you made a mistake and then you start. But it worked. And honestly, I have never been happier to see an alternator working!"
According to the Vendée Globe press release.
