SailGP has canceled the second day of the KPMG Australia Sail Grand Prix in Sydney due to a major weather event. The event, which was scheduled to take place on December 18 and 19, 2021, saw high winds and waves in excess of 3 meters, making it unsafe for the racing boats to compete. This is the first time that a SailGP event has been canceled due to weather conditions.

A severe weather event caused significant damage to the wing sails and at least one boat at the SailGP technical site. SailGP has reported that there were no serious injuries during the incident, but unfortunately, racing has been cancelled for the second day of the event due to the extensive damage caused. A comprehensive evaluation of the destruction is currently in progress, and it is possible that future SailGP events may be impacted as well. As more information becomes available, SailGP will provide updates.
