This high-performance structure aims to bring together some of the best players in offshore racing and Olympic sailing. It will gather Franck Cammas and three experienced sailors: Jean-Baptiste Bernaz, Jérémie Mion (49er), and Paola Amar (470). The goal is to unite energies, expertise, and technical resources to pursue ambitious endeavors.
Mobilizing the cream of French sailing
The target is The Ocean Race 2027 (a crewed round-the-world race on IMOCA) followed by the spectacular year 2028 with the Los Angeles Olympics and the next edition of the Vendée Globe, in which Franck Cammas aims to participate. The challenge now is to find partners... In an interview with Voile Magazine in early November 2024, Franck Cammas expressed his enthusiasm for participating in the Vendée Globe 2028: "Without hesitation! My desire is strong, but before the Vendée Globe, I first want to compete in The Ocean Race in 2027." To tackle this challenge, a state-of-the-art IMOCA will be designed based on the feedback from various plans involved in the Vendée Globe 2024... A crucial step for Cammas: "The design is one of the aspects that excites me the most. I am convinced that we can build an innovative and high-performance boat." However, restrictions on the IMOCA class regarding foils dampen his enthusiasm: "It's regrettable. A monohull can fly with foils, improving both the sailors' comfort and performance."
Sailing Generation: Bringing together sailing talents
The aim is twofold: to support performance and promote inclusive values. "We want to pass on, inspire, and facilitate access to sailing. The ultimate goal is transmission and the ability to work together," states the performance expert from the Team France in the last America's Cup.
For more than fifteen years, I have evolved in compartmentalized environments. Sailing Generation aims to unite these worlds, to share knowledge and experiences to compete with the best globally. (Franck Cammas)
A call for partnerships to build the future
The scale of this project requires strong support, both human and financial. Cammas thus appeals to companies willing to engage: "It's an opportunity to support destinies of athletes as diverse as our sport. It's not just support for a sailor, but for a collective adventure." For Jean-Baptiste Bernaz, the idea of transversality is a major advantage:
The project's challenge is to draw from youth and motivation in the Olympics while benefiting from offshore racing expertise.
The technological challenge of IMOCA
The design of an innovative IMOCA is at the heart of the project, an area where Cammas excels thanks to his past experiences: "I have collaborated with Sam Manuard and Guillaume Verdier, but the choice of the architect will depend on the analysis of this Vendée Globe." This expertise is based on a rich track record, including his key role in the development of Charal 2. With six boats designed, Cammas is confident in his ability to define an IMOCA capable of competing with the best.
An itinerary of excellence
Born in 1972, Franck Cammas has established himself as a prominent figure in sailing. From his victory in the Solitaire du Figaro in 1997 to his triumph in the Volvo Ocean Race 2012, he has explored all horizons of competition. Among his most notable achievements:
- Jules Verne Trophy (2010)
- Volvo Ocean Race (2012)
- Route du Rhum (2010)
Since then, he has been involved in cutting-edge technological projects, such as developing foils for the ultimates or performance within the French America's Cup Challenge.
A promising horizon
With The Ocean Race 2027 and the Vendée Globe 2028 as major milestones, Franck Cammas continues to push his limits. Accompanied by his Sailing Generation team and leveraging his expertise, he embodies the fusion of technological innovation and human values. This bold project promises to be an exciting collective adventure, reflecting its creator.
This is not just another project but the beginning of a beautiful collective adventure. (Franck Cammas)
