Yamaha Unveils Innovative Helm Master Control System

Yamaha recently unveiled its innovative Helm Master EX Wireless Control System at the 2025 Miami International Boat Show. This advanced system integrates features such as the Helm Master EX joystick, autopilot functionalities, and a man overboard (MOB) mechanism, enhancing safety and control for boaters.

The system is designed for ease of use, featuring a convenient fingertip button that allows for single-handed operation. Additionally, it incorporates a sophisticated MOB system that automatically brings the boat to an idle stop or shuts down the engines entirely, depending on the circumstances, when a man overboard situation is detected.

Each system comes equipped with one Captain and one passenger fob and can support up to eight MOB fobs, ensuring comprehensive coverage for all on board. The system also enables users to monitor crucial navigational data such as depth, heading, and speed, with the option to adjust heading and course as needed.

Ben Speciale, President of Yamaha U.S. Marine Business Unit, highlighted the system's benefits, stating, "This innovative feature of Helm Master EX can significantly enhance the boating experience by providing precise control, automation, and intelligent functionality." He further noted that the system allows captains to fully utilize their time on the water.

The wireless controller, designed for up to eight hours of continuous use, includes a charging cradle that can be conveniently placed anywhere on the boat. Furthermore, the system is buoyant, ensuring it can be retrieved easily if it falls overboard.

In addition to the Helm Master EX, Yamaha has also made progress in sustainable marine technology with its hydrogen-powered outboard, first revealed at the 2024 Miami International Boat Show. Developed in collaboration with Roush and built on Yamaha’s 450hp XTO Offshore platform, this innovative system is currently undergoing testing at Yamaha’s facility in Bridgeport, Alabama. Yamaha’s engineers are focused on optimizing its performance metrics on the water.

Speciale expressed optimism about the hydrogen technology, stating, "Our hydrogen outboard concept is now being tested on the water, and we are learning valuable insights about optimizing its performance daily. We believe in a multi-technology approach for cleaner marine products, with hydrogen being a key component of our strategy."

Yamaha plans to share further performance data on its hydrogen outboard as it becomes available, promising exciting developments in eco-friendly marine propulsion.
