Honda Marine has announced significant updates to its high-power outboard engines at the 2025 Discover Boating Miami International Boat Show, enhancing both performance and operational ease.
The company's models including the Honda BF115, BF140, and BF150 (inline four) along with the Honda BF200, BF225, and BF250 (V6) will feature improvements. These models are inspired by the engineering of Honda’s first commercially available V8 motor, the BF350.
Both the inline four and V6 engines will be offered with options for Honda Intelligent Shift and Throttle (iST) drive-by-wire technology or traditional mechanical control systems, catering to diverse boating preferences.
A total of 12 models across the BF115, BF140, BF150, BF200, BF225, and BF250 series will incorporate these advancements.
Enhanced User Experience
Notable upgrades include a new helm control setup featuring a side-mounted iST five-button, multi-function panel, and a single-lever neutral lock with a clear neutral indicator. The engines are also compatible with the latest 7-inch HD operating displays, enhancing user interface and control.
Drive-by-wire models now match the BF350 V8’s iST-controlled features like automatic tilt, trim support, and cruise control. Options for three-engine setups include a center engine control with a dual-lever iST binnacle or third-party joystick control, simplifying handling and maneuverability.
The V6 iST models are designed with larger, user-friendly levers and handles that are seamlessly integrated into the engine's overall design.
Internally, the engines have been upgraded with an optimized combustion chamber shape to enhance efficient combustion and consistent performance. Additional mechanical upgrades include a more robust starter motor mount and an improved starter motor seal.
Honda has also refined its Lean Burn Control System to boost fuel efficiency further and has made significant enhancements in the durability and reliability of the motor's components, along with easier installation and maintenance protocols.
Daniel Sherlock, director of Honda Marine Division, emphasized the company's commitment to boating enthusiasts, stating, "Our focus remains on people who enjoy the thrill and exhilaration of boating. By leveraging our extensive engineering expertise and staying attuned to industry trends and customer feedback, Honda Marine is committed to delivering superior boating experiences and strengthening our position as a leader in marine mobility."
Honda Marine, known for their high-performance, fuel-efficient, durable, and reliable outboard engines, continues to innovate to meet the demands of modern boaters. The new Honda Marine L4 and V6 outboards are set to be available later in 2025, promising to enhance the boating experience with their state-of-the-art features.
