Cutting-edge titanium sheets introduced to the market

SailGP has recently introduced its latest innovation – the high-speed titanium 'T-foils' – to the international F50 fleet participating in the league.

This implementation comes after an extensive period of testing that lasted for almost two years.

The upcoming racing weekend in Auckland on January 18-19, 2025, will witness the debut of the T-Foils as part of the high-speed setup, promising an exciting showcase of speed and competition for the global racing championship.

The primary objective of this groundbreaking innovation is to enhance speeds and foster tighter competition among the teams involved in the championship.

Prior to this league-wide adoption, the T-Foils underwent rigorous trials under specific conditions, predominantly led by the Canada SailGP Team. Throughout SailGP's fourth season, this team, under the guidance of former driver Phil Robertson, conducted a series of tests that culminated in a remarkable top speed of 55 knots. This achievement surpassed the previous speed record set during racing by the France SailGP Team in Saint-Tropez in Season 3, which stood at nearly 54 knots.

The introduction of T-Foils marks the retirement of the existing 'L-Foils' that have been in use since SailGP's establishment in 2019.

These new foils are meticulously crafted from machined titanium and carbon, featuring thinner sections compared to the L-Foils. This design alteration aims to minimize drag significantly, especially at high velocities.

The Rolex SailGP Championship showcases national teams competing head-to-head in identical state-of-the-art 50ft foiling catamarans at various venues across the globe. Presently, twelve teams are actively participating in this prestigious championship, vying for victory and glory.
