NLComp partners with Composite Recycling company

NLComp and Composite Recycling have joined forces to showcase the recyclability and reuse applications of NLComp’s rComposite material within the marine industry.

Collaborating with Composite Recycling, the Italian company NLComp has embarked on evaluating the circular economy aspects of its rComposite material. This innovative material incorporates a thermoplastic matrix, specifically Arkema's Elium resin, along with eco-friendly raw materials.

The outcomes of the conducted tests have surpassed initial expectations, revealing that the reclaimed fibers are free from any visible impurities and possess a soft, pliable texture. Moreover, the minimal residue left after the recycling process solidifies NLComp's belief in the material's high potential for integration into new composite materials.

These successful test results further validate NLComp's commitment to sustainability, following the acknowledgment from DNV in October 2024 regarding the recyclability and recycled content of rComposite in compliance with ISO standards.

“This collaborative initiative with Composite Recycling highlights how innovation and cooperation can effectively promote sustainability within prominent industries,” stated Fabio Bignolini, the CEO of NLComp.

Our shared alignment in visions and objectives is crucial for establishing a comprehensive value chain for sustainable composites.

Expressing his optimism, Fabio Bignolini added, “The recyclability potential exhibited by rComposite not only meets but surpasses our anticipations, setting the stage for a more circular approach in marine, wind energy, and various other sectors.

“When combined with the endorsement received from DNV earlier this year, this marks a significant stride towards enhancing the credibility of our technological advancements.”

In agreement, Guillaume Perben, the CEO of Composite Recycling, remarked, “Our collaboration with NLComp exemplifies our mutual ambition to revolutionize the lifecycle of composite materials.

“The remarkable convergence of our visions and goals is fundamental in constructing a robust value chain for sustainable composites.

“These outcomes underscore the value of pioneering recycling processes, bringing us closer to the prospect of redirecting composite waste away from landfills and channeling it towards valuable new productions.”

Established in 2020, NLComp, headquartered in Italy, introduced the sailing prototype Ecoracer and unveiled designs for its upcoming Offshore 35 model.

Furthermore, NLComp has engaged in partnerships with various companies, including Cantiere del Pardo.

Composite Recycling, a Swiss startup founded in 2021, is dedicated to revolutionizing the end-of-life cycle management for composite materials.
