Catana Group Expands Portuguese Shipyard, Plans Launch of New Catamaran Models

Catana Group, a distinguished French catamaran manufacturer, has successfully expanded its shipyard in Aveiro, Portugal. This significant development enhances the company’s production capacity, positioning Catana Group to meet the escalating global demand for premium catamarans. With the upgraded facility, the company is poised to introduce a range of innovative models in 2025, reinforcing its leadership in the competitive yachting market.

Boris Compagnon, Sales and Marketing Director at Catana Group, highlighted that the expanded Aveiro shipyard is integral to the company’s strategy to advance the Yot power catamaran line. Nestled near Portugal’s stunning Atlantic coastline, the new facility benefits from excellent maritime conditions, which facilitate the efficient construction and rigorous testing of state-of-the-art catamarans.

"2024 was a milestone year for Catana Group, marking our highest turnover and profitability to date," Compagnon remarked. "We successfully delivered numerous catamarans ordered in the previous years, including the highly acclaimed Bali 5.8 under our Bali Catamarans brand. This model has garnered significant attention for its exceptional design and performance."

Looking forward to 2025, Catana Group intends to diversify its offerings with the introduction of new catamaran models in various sizes. While specific details remain confidential, these upcoming models are expected to cater to a wide spectrum of sailing enthusiasts, from leisure sailors to professional charter operators, thereby expanding the company’s market reach.

Catana Group operates under three distinct brands: the heritage Catana, the widely popular Bali Catamarans, and the innovative Yot series. The Yot brand, the latest addition to their portfolio, debuted the Yot 36 in 2023, followed by the Yot 41 in 2024. These models are designed with advanced features and sustainable technologies, aligning with the industry's shift towards eco-friendly yachting solutions.

The company is set to unveil its latest catamaran models at the upcoming boot Düsseldorf boat show, scheduled for January 18 to 26, 2025. This prestigious event will serve as a platform for Catana Group to showcase its newest innovations and engage with a global audience of yachting enthusiasts and industry professionals.

In 2024, Catana Group delivered approximately 330 boats worldwide, underscoring its robust manufacturing capabilities and strong market presence. Compagnon emphasized the company’s financial growth, noting a 15% increase in profitability compared to the previous year.

Founded in 1984, Catana Group has established itself as a global leader in catamaran production, employing over 1,300 skilled professionals across four production sites: Canet-en-Roussillon in southern France, Marans near La Rochelle on the Atlantic coast, El Haouaria in Cap Bon, Tunisia, and the recently expanded facility in Aveiro, Portugal. Additionally, the company operates an industrial joinery workshop in Rivesaltes, ensuring complete control over furniture production for its vessels, and maintains a service base in Port Pin Rolland, southern France.

Beyond manufacturing, Catana Group is actively investing in its chartering business. The newly established Bali Charter, located near Toulon on the French Mediterranean coast, currently manages a boutique fleet of six boats. This venture serves as a live testing ground, providing invaluable user feedback to refine and enhance Catana’s catamaran designs. "Our chartering company not only diversifies our business model but also acts as an innovation lab, enabling us to directly interact with clients and continuously improve our offerings," Compagnon explained.

As Catana Group continues to expand and innovate, it remains committed to delivering top-tier catamarans that blend performance, comfort, and sustainability. The company's strategic investments in production capacity and new model development position it well to meet the evolving demands of the global yachting market.
