American Magic and Nautor Swan announce partnership to boost sailing in the United States

The recent partnership between American Magic and Nautor Swan aims to revitalize sailing in the United States and grow the nautical industry.

Synergy between engineering and design

American Magic, the U.S. challenger for the 36th and 37th America's Cup, and Nautor Swan, a global leader in yacht design and construction, announced on Sunday, January 19, their intention to form a strategic partnership focused on energizing sailing in America and growing the nautical industry.

New competitions and a new fleet

The joint venture will kick off with the ClubSwan 28 project. A fleet of ClubSwan 28 boats will be developed, and a new series of races will be organized. The debut is scheduled for late 2025 in Pensacola and along the East Coast. American Magic and Nautor Swan aim to create a unique opportunity for yacht owners and competitive sailors, promoting growth and innovation in the U.S. nautical and sailing industry.

A joint venture to create new boats and world-class races

In addition to the ClubSwan 28 project, the joint venture will promote sales and services of Nautor Swan yachts in the United States. This will also support American Magic's mission to grow the sport and nautical industry. They will also explore other activities, including building Nautor Swan and Bluegame yachts at American Magic facilities. By introducing world-class boats and races, the two companies will strengthen their leadership in their respective fields, contributing to sector growth.

American Magic and Nautor Swan to revitalize sailing

"The joint venture represents a significant step in American Magic's mission to lead sailing in the United States into a new era of innovation and competition," said Terry Hutchinson, President of Sailing Operations at American Magic. "Combining the iconic design of Nautor Swan yachts with our advanced engineering and construction capabilities, we are ready to transform the landscape of competitive sailing in America. This could provide a high-performance platform for sailors, boat owners, and the broader nautical industry."

"This is a natural evolution for both Nautor Swan and American Magic," stated Giovanni Pomati, CEO of Nautor Swan. "I am particularly pleased with the agreement reached with American Magic, a team rich in talent in every sector. We needed a partner who shared our vision and values. Revitalizing sailing in America is our challenge, both commercially and technologically."

Tyson Lamond, Chief Operations Officer of American Magic, added: "The introduction of shared services for the ClubSwan 28 fleet represents a change in the way races can be managed. Teams no longer have to travel with full crews, as we provide the operational support needed to ensure that boats are race-ready. This is the first step towards a broader vision to simplify competition, build infrastructure for the future, and showcase the capabilities of our High-Performance Sailing Center in Pensacola."

Federico Michetti, Head of Sports Activities at Nautor Swan, stated: "In the United States, I have many sailor friends and have had the privilege of participating in the most iconic events. It is a long story that has significantly contributed to the growth of sailors' techniques and skills. Terry and his team are great champions, and I can confidently say that this project has been in development for a long time. I am sure it will bring new energy to the sailing world."
