Alba Sailing company changes ownership

An independent bareboat and skippered yacht charter company, Alba Sailing, located on the West Coast of Scotland, has recently changed ownership in a deal of undisclosed value.

Aside from yacht charters, the business encompasses a chandlery store that provides various services including equipment rental, rigging assistance, and laundry facilities for the charters.

Moreover, there is a workshop dedicated to the maintenance of the chartered yachts. The business also boasts a marina fleet consisting of 11 chartered yachts, out of which six were previously owned by Alba Sailing and five are under management.

Established over 40 years ago, the company operates from purpose-built premises at Dunstaffnage Marina, Oban.

This notable acquisition highlights the increasing interest in Scotland for top-notch marinas and related services.

David and Julie Banks, the previous owners and operators of the business, have decided to sell it to retire and enjoy their well-deserved break.

The new owner, a first-time buyer entering the marina market, brings prior experience in yachting and maritime services to the table.

Mark Lavery, an associate director at Christie & Co who facilitated the sale, expressed his best wishes for David and Julie in their retirement. He is pleased to have overseen the sale of the charter service on their behalf.

He further commented, “They are passing on a thriving business into capable hands, and the future looks promising for Alba Sailing moving ahead.”

He also noted, “This transaction mirrors the current landscape of the maritime sector in Scotland. It underlines the escalating demand in Scotland for top-quality marinas and associated services.”
