Naval School Grand Prix 2025: A Schedule Brimming with Fresh Features

From May 29 to May 31, 2025, the Grand Prix de l’École Navale (GPEN) is set to make a spectacular return with a fresh edition during the Ascension weekend. This premier event in French monotype sailing will once again gather the finest fleets across six racing areas stretching from Brest to Crozon-Morgat, Lanvéoc, Roscanvel, and Camaret.

The GPEN annually draws sailing enthusiasts to the challenging waters of Brittany’s tip. The 2025 edition expects to host around 17 boat classes across various race zones organized for the event.

Perennial participants including classes like J/80 and Open 570 will appear in large numbers alongside the Muscadets, which continue to show vitality after six decades. Other classes such as Corsaires, Open 500, Seascape 18, Diam 24 OD, Mach 650, and Open 750 will also compete, ensuring a diverse and competitive lineup.

A significant new feature in the 2025 edition is the introduction of a mixed fleet of keelboats in the beautiful Bay of Crozon-Morgat. This new racing zone will welcome a variety of keelboats including Aile, Flying Fifteen, Tempest, Vent d’Ouest, Olympic 21, Seascape 18, and Open 500, providing a unique opportunity for these boats to compete in a breathtaking setting.

Brest will continue to host the Handisport classes (MiniJi, Hansa 303, and Neo495) at the Moulin Blanc port, with facilities tailored to competitors with limited mobility, ensuring they experience optimal conditions for racing.

Since 2022, the GPEN has highlighted new technologies and foiling boats, reflecting the French Navy’s commitment to innovation. This year, classes such as Waszp and Birdy Fish return, and the new addition of the impressive Easy to Fly (ETF 26) catamarans will certainly captivate spectators with their carbon construction and three-person crew, performing right in front of the École Navale.

In terms of offshore racing, the GPEN continues its partnership with the French Sailing Federation to offer offshore races. Following last year’s success, the Figaro Class will again make a stop in Camaret, providing skippers with perfect team preparation ahead of the Tour Voile scheduled from June 25 to July 13.

As is tradition, the Grand Prix de l’École Navale enjoys the support of local communities and sailing clubs from Brest, Crozon-Morgat, Roscanvel, Lanvéoc, and Camaret. Their involvement is crucial in making GPEN a standout competition that promotes sailing accessibility for all.

Registrations for the event will open in March 2025 on the official website, agpen.fr. Meanwhile, sailing enthusiasts are encouraged to gear up for what promises to be an unforgettable edition!
