Eyemouth Marine unveils innovative heritage project

Eyemouth Marine in Scotland recently launched a unique heritage training program with the goal of preserving traditional craftsmanship.

Named "The Viking Project: Reviving the Stroma Yole – Building Green Entrepreneurs through Heritage Restoration," this initiative is the first of its kind at the company's modern training facility.

The program offers a blend of hands-on practical skills and personal growth opportunities. It is structured to provide students with technical knowledge and insights into the business and sustainability aspects of heritage restoration.

At the core of the program is the Stroma Yole, a historic double-ended vessel with a lineage dating back to the Norse Viking raiding ships.

Diligent Restoration Work

Participants will be tasked with restoring the Bee, a vessel launched in 1904 that stands as one of the few remaining examples of its kind and is in need of significant restoration.

Project manager Kevin McClure commented, “Through The Viking Project, Eyemouth Marine Ltd is establishing a new benchmark for skill development programs, empowering the younger generation to respect the past while spearheading innovations for a more sustainable future.”

Situated in Eyemouth Harbour along Scotland's south-east coast, Eyemouth Marine offers services catering to both commercial and leisure vessels.

The company's new training center aims to provide courses in maritime skills, arming young individuals with practical proficiency, business acumen, and a progressive mindset towards sustainability.
