The Engine Gateway YDEG-04 serves as a gateway for seamlessly connecting Volvo Penta, BRP Rotax, SmartCraft (Mercury, Mercruiser), and J1939 engines to NMEA 2000 marine electronics networks. This device provides comprehensive data, including engine revolutions, motor hours, coolant temperature, battery voltage, warnings, alarms, fuel rate, and more, directly to the chart plotter screen.
Compatibility spans across BRP Rotax, Yanmar 4JH series, SmartCraft (Mercury, Mercruiser), J1939 engines (Caterpillar, etc.), and most Volvo Penta engines manufactured since 2004, extending even to some engines produced prior to 2000.
For specific Volvo Penta engines, compatibility includes various versions such as EVC-B, EVC-C, EVC-D, EVC-E (since 2006), D1 and D2 series with MDI, EDC III and EDC IV diesel engines, EVC-A MC, and EVC-A EC. Additionally, it accommodates EFI engines with MEFI4B ECU or later, EGC engines, and more.
Installation is simplified, requiring connection to the NMEA 2000 network backbone and, for most Volvo Penta vessels, a straightforward plug into an empty socket. An adaptor cable may be necessary for some engines, available at a reasonable cost.
Key reasons to invest in the Engine Gateway YDEG-04 include its ability to duplicate or replace broken instruments, monitor engines remotely from any cabin when combined with a Wi-Fi-enabled chart plotter, and record engine and fuel usage for maintenance or rental purposes.
The device provides a wealth of data on the chart plotter, depending on the engine controller and installed sensors. This includes RPM, total engine hours, coolant temperature, battery voltage, alternator potential, warnings, alarms, fuel-related metrics, engine load, torque, exhaust gas temperature, and more.
Noteworthy features encompass low-cost installation with minimal additional cables, easy configuration via a MicroSD card, high-voltage galvanic isolation between J1939 and NMEA 2000 interfaces, and support for Volvo Penta D1 and D2 engines. The Gateway also supports tilt/trim calibration for various engines, can substitute engine data with NMEA 2000 pressure and temperature sensors, and is equipped with a MicroSD card slot for firmware updates.
The Engine Gateway YDEG-04 stands out as the first device on the market to support Volvo Penta EVC-A and EVC-MC engines (Volcano protocol) and BRP Rotax engines (BRP CAN protocol). It also supports the SmartCraft protocol for Mercury and Mercruiser engines, featuring a list of supported parameters. This versatile device accommodates up to 8 engines and transmissions, 8 batteries, and 10 fuel tanks, with settings for fuel tank capacity and sensor calibration for all tanks.
