The gateway facilitates the visualization of NMEA 2000 marine digital network data on Microsoft Windows, Mac OS, or Linux-based PCs, laptops, or tablet PCs. It enables access to essential marine network information, such as vessel course, speed, position, wind speed and direction, water depth, AIS messages from vessels and aircraft, and other navigation data within PC applications like OpenCPN, Expedition, Coastal Explorer, Polar View, OpenSkipper, etc.
This bi-directional gateway allows the transmission of messages from PC applications to the NMEA 2000 network, enabling functionalities like sending AIS data from a PC USB receiver to a chart plotter and controlling the autopilot and vessel equipment. Additionally, it supports acting as an NMEA 0183 converter when NMEA 0183 equipment is connected to the PC ports.
The device offers versatile operation modes:
- 0183 Mode: Converts NMEA 2000 to NMEA 0183 and vice versa, covering significant data, including AIS and autopilot information.
- N2K Mode: Sends all NMEA 2000 messages to PC and vice versa in binary form, compatible with various marine software.
- RAW Mode: Transmits NMEA 2000 messages in readable text format, useful for diagnostics and custom applications, supported in Expedition 10.7.23 and higher versions.
- AUTO Mode: Automatically selects the appropriate mode based on the PC application connection.
Connection to a PC is established via a USB cable (compatible with USB 1.1 and higher). The device acts as a virtual COM port at the software level, requiring no special driver for Mac OS X, Linux, and Windows 10. For older Windows versions, a driver installation is needed.
Key features of the gateway include:
- Compatibility with NMEA 2000, J1939, and Volvo Penta EVC networks.
- Open protocols detailed in the manual.
- Firmware updates and diagnostic data recording support.
- High-voltage galvanic isolation between NMEA 2000 and USB interfaces.
- IP67 waterproof USB connector in some models for outdoor use.
The model with the IP67 female connector is suitable for bulkhead installation and can be ordered with an additional 1.2-meter USB Type A Male-Male cable. The gateway is designed for NMEA 2000 networks and is compatible with various equipment, including Raymarine SeaTalk NG, Simrad SimNet, Furuno CAN, and Garmin devices.
Gateways are equipped with high-quality USB Type A connectors featuring gold-plated contacts. Models with "M" in the suffix have a male connector and are intended for dry indoor use, connecting directly to a PC USB port. Models with "F" in the suffix have a female connector with a protective cap and IP67 waterproofing, suitable for outdoor mounting. Additional cable options are available for the IP67 model on the ordering page.
