The Gateway serves as a conduit for viewing data from NMEA 0183 marine devices on PCs or smartphones, offering insights into vessel course, speed, position, wind speed and direction, water depth, AIS messages, and other navigation data through popular software applications.
Featuring two physical NMEA 0183 ports (two inputs and two outputs), the Gateway facilitates configurable speed from 300 to 115200 baud, accommodating data exchange between devices with varying speeds. Both "single ended" (RS-232) and "differential" (RS-422) NMEA 0183 connections are supported, compatible with COM ports of PCs and USB-to-serial adaptors.
The Gateway establishes its Wi-Fi network, covering approximately 30 meters in open spaces, or can integrate into an existing Wi-Fi network. This connectivity enables remote access over the Internet, with laptops and PCs connecting via Ethernet to Wi-Fi routers and the Gateway.
Supporting TCP and UDP network protocols simultaneously, the Gateway seamlessly integrates with marine software like OpenCPN, iNavx, Navionics Boating App, and MaxSea. Notably, it hosts colorful web-based gauges accessible via any browser, offering real-time monitoring of wind, engine, tanks, batteries, course, speed, depth, and NMEA logs, eliminating the need for additional applications or instrument displays.
Configuring the Gateway's settings necessitates any Wi-Fi-enabled device with a web browser. Users can define data filters for incoming and outgoing NMEA 0183 data, optimizing traffic on slower connections. Additionally, a pair of Wi-Fi Gateways can extend NMEA 0183 wirelessly, facilitating connectivity between physical devices or bridging NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 networks.
The Gateway automatically records track data with weather, depth, and more to internal memory, accommodating up to 32000 points. These records can be saved as GPX or CSV files from the internal web interface.
Key features of the Gateway include:
- Duplication or replacement of instruments, complementing obsolete devices.
- Built-in web gauges for real-time vessel data viewing via browser.
- Flexible routing and data filtering across physical NMEA 0183 ports.
- Compatibility with various marine applications.
- Capability to serve as a wireless extender for NMEA 0183 devices.
- Support for TCP and UDP protocols, acting as a Wi-Fi Access Point or integrating into existing networks.
- Automatic recording of track and data to internal memory.
- Inclusion of an internal web server for diagnostics, firmware updates, and configuration.
Despite the Gateway's waterproof casing, caution is advised due to open terminals, which may be susceptible to short circuits when exposed to seawater. Avoid placement in areas prone to water exposure.
