The NMEA 0183 Gateway facilitates seamless connectivity between NMEA 0183 equipment and a NMEA 2000 network, offering a bi-directional converter with extensive support for message types, including AIS and autopilot.
Featuring one NMEA 2000 connection and a NMEA 0183 port equipped with transmit and receive data lines, the Gateway supports a configurable baud rate ranging from 300 to 115200 baud for the NMEA 0183 port. This flexibility enables connections to AIS transceivers (38400 baud), fast NMEA 0183 multiplexers, PC adaptors, and standard NMEA 0183 equipment. The device accommodates both "single-ended" (RS-232) and "differential" (RS-422) NMEA 0183 connections, making it compatible with COM (serial) ports of PCs and USB-to-serial adaptors.
Noteworthy features include the ability to control Raymarine SeaTalk NG autopilots from NMEA 0183, a versatile filtering system allowing the blocking of NMEA 0183 messages by sentence and NMEA 2000 messages by PGN, sender address, or 29-bit message identifier. The Gateway is powered from the NMEA 2000 and provides high-voltage galvanic isolation between NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 ports. Additionally, it can function as a multiplexer for NMEA 0183 equipment, offering routing between RX and TX lines of the NMEA 0183 port.
For enhanced radar performance, the Gateway includes a fast heading (12 Hz) option. It also features a Micro SD card slot for configuration, firmware updates, and diagnostic data logging. No specialized software is required for updates or configuration; a simple text editor on a device with a MicroSD card reader (laptop or smartphone) suffices.
A particularly useful aspect of the Gateway is its diagnostic recording capability, providing valuable data for troubleshooting NMEA-related issues. This comprehensive device seamlessly bridges the gap between NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000, offering reliability and versatility in marine electronics integration.
