Victron Energy Lithium Battery Smart batteries utilize Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) technology, offered in 12.8 V or 25.6 V configurations with various capacities. These batteries are versatile, allowing series, parallel, or series/parallel connections, enabling the creation of battery banks for 12 V, 24 V, or 48 V system voltages. The system can accommodate up to 20 batteries, providing a maximum energy storage of 84 kWh in a 12 V system and up to 102 kWh in 24 V and 48 V systems.
Each LFP cell has a nominal voltage of 3.2V, with a 12.8 V battery comprising 4 cells and a 25.6 V battery consisting of 8 cells in series. Noteworthy advantages of LFP include tolerance to partial charging, a wide operating temperature range, excellent cycling performance, low internal resistance, and high efficiency.
In terms of efficiency, LFP outperforms lead-acid batteries, achieving a 92% round-trip energy efficiency compared to the 80% of lead-acid. LFP excels in applications demanding energy efficiency, offering significant space and weight savings of up to 70%. While LFP batteries may entail higher initial costs, their extended service life, superior reliability, and exceptional efficiency justify the investment, especially in demanding applications.
